The Nocturne

Hi everyone,

Today, after working at my place of employment since 1998, I have been laid off. I'm moving to disabled housing in a month which, thank the gods, will be only 1/3 of whatever I make and if it's zero, it's zero. However, I will have no health insurance though I hope to get COBRA, which costs $300 a month and whatever unemployment I get will eat into that in one unemployment payment. To everyone who knows me, you know I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and take drugs that are very expensive to stop the disease from progressing and it will cripple me otherwise. Between the drugs and my other bills and moving expenses I will be fucked. Even if I manage to find a job to work from home with, I probably wouldn't have health insurance and I can't apply for disability until I'm unable to work for a year.

Hello my dears,

In my last post I pimped Less Than Three press and the blog hop.

I've submitted "Danse Macabre" to them as part of an anthology called "Proud To Be A Vampire."

I have to make some changes and they need to draft a contract but once that happens, it will be in that anthology.

My first time I'll be published.

It's like letting my baby be adopted into a new family. The changes made sense, I just have to figure out how to implement them.

I have to submit it by April 30.

Now…would someone be interested in being my beta or letting me try the changed manuscript out on them? It'll help motivate me and hopefully when I do make the changes, they can tell me what works and what doesn't.

I was reading an article about one of my most influential authors, "Octavia Butler" and the themes she wrote about in her stories. It made me think about the themes my stories have so here they are:

The biggest theme I think is caste and caste systems. Black Widower, especially, deals with caste, how blood, bloodlines and where you are on the evolutionary ladder determines your power, your rights and where you are on the food chain.

In the Black Widower universe, the official people in power are Homo Superior, the people with psionic abilities. Homo Sapien, those who are the step below on the evolutionary ladder, have no such abilities so they are the lower caste. Somewhere even lower are the mutants who have abilities but are not Supes. But to the Sangsue, Odogi and any other predatory race, the human race is not below them on the food chain.

Caste systems are also in play within the juicer community, with Nightchildren, with Sangsue blood being above the Stalkers, with human blood.( Read more... )

 Here is my first entry. For now, it's just to myself but hopefully, eventually, I hope to have a place where I can pick brains, brainstorm, bounce ideas off of and post stories to.
